Scrum is a framework of good practices for managing projects: it does not explicitly cover other areas, such as testing, version control, design or architecture.
Benefits of Scrum
Its aim is to deliver results as soon as possible and adapt to change. With deliveries in short timeframes, usually from two weeks to a month, you can:
- Manage the client’s expectations with tangible results.
- Get early results (time to market).
- Respond flexibly to the client’s needs and to market changes.
- Manage return on investment systematically.
- Reduce project risks systematically.
How it works
- The client (Product Owner) creates and manages the product requirements list and prioritises it according to the value each requirement brings, its development cost and the project risks.
- At the end of each iteration, the team shows the client the completed requirements. This way the client sees real progress without waiting for a final delivery that might have drifted from the expected result, when correcting it would be costly and would delay the project.
Applying Scrum requires the client to be involved and take an active part in the process: alignment between the client and the development team is essential.
